childrens classes

Shoshin

Beginners Mind.

The best attitude to have to learn: excited about the possibilities that lie ahead, while respecting the knowledge of one’s teachers (Sensei) and one’s senior students (Sempai).

Children and Aikido

Learning Aikido offers children the opportunity to learn how to protect themselves while at the same time maintaining a respectful, empathetic attitude toward others. The physical training in the dojo becomes a metaphor for dealing with life’s challenges in a powerful, but intelligent and calm way. All that, and it’s fun too!

Children learn the basic techniques of Aikido and develop a better sense of their physical bodies and movement. Because the dojo is a traditional martial arts dojo they learn the importance of good etiquette. As with the adult classes, children are taught to look at their fellow students not as adversaries but as partners in learning.
